There has been an increasing concern on the use of statins, which has raised an alarm on the safety on its use. There have been concerns on the side effects which develop after the usage of simvastatin 80 mg drug, which has lead to the proposed FDA simvastatin 80 mg recall. Although somewhat effective on the prevention of heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure to mention but a few, Simvastatin 80 mg has very severe, and even deadly muscle side effects, which were ignored by the FDA. A lot of research which has been carried out has shown that the high dosage of this drug is the major cause of drug induced rhabdomyolysis in the United States.
For instance, a newer statin with lower dosage can almost eliminate muscle-related side effects which are otherwise common in people who use simvastatin 80 mg. The simvastine80 mg recall should have been implemented by the FDA to insure the safety of the American public. Patients need to be informed and should seek other statin drugs, which have lower doses and are not detrimental to their health. The most common side effects of any statin include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach upsets. On the other hand, there are side effects which are very serious or even deadly, such as rhabdomyolysis or myopathy. If myopathy or rhabdomyolysis are suspected, immediate withdrawal from simvastatin 80mg must take place immediately. Other adverse effects include liver problems, which result due to elevated liver enzymes. Furthermore, the main reason that the simvastatine80 mg recall is prudent is because of a condition called rhabdomyolysis which can lead to kidney failure and death.
